‘WILD BEAN CAFÉ EVENT’

Sunday, 24 July 2005 was certainly a day to remember (even if it was postponed the previous weekend). The NHMC held their mid winter ‘Wild Bean Cafe’ event. Arriving at Kumeu field around 12.05pm, I didn’t think I was going to get a car park, the field was laden with cars not to mention club members, some of whom had already made short work of the numerous treats that were on offer at the Wild Bean Café, as well as getting an hours worth or so of flying in.
A few club members were still re-building their helicopters on Sunday afternoon down at the field (just look at that dedication), after some near fatal mishaps the day before. And if you lived in my household, you would have noticed a certain someone re-building, fixing, tinkering and polishing till about 2AM!!! Speaking of mishaps, there were a few more on Sunday…………..well, they say it comes in threes!! (all pirouetting accidents caused by failures).
Chris turned up again to perform some amazing stunts, one that saw his butt cheeks clench rather tightly, not that I was looking in that region of course, and Paul who never ceases to amaze me, with his cheeky 3-D stunts and other maneuvers. You guys make it look all so easier to a beginner like me!!!
Some great news that has to be mentioned is that a number of club members also managed to gain their wings badges in between, so I am sure they will be well pleased with themselves. A few of them have already started delving into aerobatics J (Mental Note: Get on Sim more often).
Brian’s Electric F87 Foamie put in an appearance, as well as a few scale helicopters; one complete with life like pilots.
A number of passing cars stopped and pulled over on the side road to view the comings and goings in the paddock, of which a few flights were met with ‘oh s#@!, did you see that’ and ‘man, aren’t those things cool’.
Thanks to the ladies who put together some mighty fine toasted sandwich’s and for those who brought different varieties of soups and fillings, they were delicious, I am sure I tasted them all!
Many thanks to Steve for organizing the shindig, and for all the tuition he gave on Sunday (kept him even busier than usual!), much appreciated. But most of all thanks to everyone who participated, it shows our ability to pull together as a team and how we can make future club events all that more attractive to the public and fellow fliers.
P.S. What happened to the club photo??? (I spent an hour on my hair…..lol)!
