NHMC,AGM. Steve N reporting.
NHMC AGM 2010 was held on Sunday 25th
April Kay’s Farm, Kumeu,
Who said no one turns up for AGMs?......
Who said NZ clubs memberships are down?.....
Who said.......
With weather forecasters predicting light
winds, some fog in low lying areas, bright sunlight most of the day (not bad
for the start of winter) with that in mind the atmosphere was set & what
a great atmosphere it was. The first duty of
the day was to make sure the heli pad was clear of debris for the full size
heli to land,(Clayton at the controls) yes: the committee organised a full size
Helicopter to arrive early morning to take our
special guest ( Land owner & Farm manager) for a scenic ride around the
surrounding area. The flight was scheduled for around 1ish which gave the
committee time to conduct the club’s AGM plus
provide a (Free) BBQ lunch for all NHMC club members attending. A
special bonus: we offered our southern members, a Free return trip by
Helicopter to our NHMC Kumeu flying site if
they made their way to Ardmore Airport by 9am Sunday morning (that put a smile
on their faces J!!)
This year’s AGM saw the existing committee
stand for another year with the addition of two new committee members helping
out with the workload, Steve Ford as safety officer & Adam Geck
as web administrator.

The Heli will depart right outside your bedroom window, ‘How cool’s that’!!!!

Something a little unusual, I received a request from Wayne Murtagh. With only a couple of weeks for preparation, time was running out
fast. My Vario upgrade parts had arrived just in the nick of time, the items
I received consisted of carbon tail rotor blades, 8 in fact (suited the
Freston tail gearbox system) The carbon tail blades will give me more tail
control in cross winds situations that we might encounter on the day, plus
wiper blades & a Fire Extinguisher all helps to finishing off a scale
bird, The day was upon us, we set out for Taupo at sparrow’s fart, this gave
us plenty of time for a morning fly, at one of the best flying sites in the
country. The “pressure” of delivering the rings would come apparent around 2.30pm.
After a successful morning test fly, which consisted of running through the
start up procedures, trimming the model for the wind direction according to
the prediction for the afternoon’s weather which was looking good. The only
thing left was to wait for a very nervous We arrived early at Huka Lodge, giving us time to set up the EC135
between the grape vines hoping none of the guests could see us. After
placing the rings on the front seat we were ready for a cell phone call from
Wayne giving me the word “start your engine” I’m not sure who was more
nervous, Wayne or me, it turned out everything ran like clock work, Great
time, Great experience, Great couple. Thanks goes to Clayton Mitchell for his time & effort helping out
especially with the “Landing by instruments” when the pilot couldn’t see the
landing zone for people!! Congratulations goes out to Wayne & Mandy, all the best for the
future. Cheers pictures explain a thousand words… More pic can be found on www.rcheliclub.co.nz Ps. Ha: Taupo Westpac rescue weekend 26/27th
April 2008
A quick
run down on what the NHMC boys got up to while in Taupo. After receiving
plenty of interest for this event, it came down to who could get time off
work, unfortunate Daroish, Clinton, Steve E, Carl & Colin were those that
couldn’t join in the fun as work commitments came calling. The weather
reports looked grim for Saturday/Sunday, I’m glad to report it didn’t spoil
anyone’s fun, thank goodness the bad weather appeared to dump itself
around the outskirts of Taupo, apart from a light drizzle both days
around 3ish, at that time everyone had packed up & headed home. With
light winds both days, plenty of flying was achieved, Saturdays flying was
carried out at The day
was full of 3D flying from Linton & Chris, general flying/Aero’s from
Clayton, Craig, Steve N & John plus Scale flying from Clayton, Wayne
& Steve N. Thanks also goes to Vicki for helping out; lets not forget
about the full size Helis Air displays, ranging from water drops to live
rescues. The Mi8 was something else. Everyone
agreed the Westpac rescue display was a great success, The organizers told us
they were inundated with calls asking if the R/C Helis were flying Sunday due
to the overcast weather, We know now why so much interest with the organizers
broadcasting the event & the R/C contingent over the Radio, plus articles
in the News papers. Many
thanks go to our hosts, Wayne Murtagh & Craig Poppy for a very warm words
thanks of appreciation plus an invite to next year’s event ( which we
would strongly recommend) More pictures can be found on our website www.rcheliclub.co.nz
Trentham Funfly 6 th & 7th March 2004
Rotorua Funfly 18 & 19th October 2003
Hawera Funfly 10th & 11th May 2003 Well as promised we had a great time, Weather on Saturday
was nice, a little cold with a light breeze. About 18 Heli pilots turned up
and had a very relaxing day. Early afternoon a R22 landed to refuel beside us
and these two pilots took an interest in our models and some of our flying.
So when they took off they gave us a bit of a show by doing an awesome stall
turn over the field and headed back over us narrowly missing some trees in
the process. Shortly after the R22 left a big YAK arrived for fuel (8 cyl
Radial Polish plane) It then took off and did about half an hour of
aerobatics above us in the clear sky so the day turned out to be more a
mini air show. In the early evening (7pm) it got nice and dark at the
field and as expected there a good turnout back at the field seen watching
some models lit up doing their routines. Sunday started cold and windy, most
fliers braved it for an hour or so before calling it a day and the locals
then brought out their windy day toys. A number of fliers had a go whizzing
up and down the airfield in land yachts (Blokarts). Unfortunately there was a high number of crashes this
weekend, I think I counted 6 crashes from the minor boom strike to several major
rebuilds. I flew my Cessna 172RG down for the weekend picking up Neil
Parkinson at the All in all we had a great time, the married fliers amongst
us all got home in good time to make up for the event being held on “Mothers Day” an oversight to
be avoided in the future ! Thanks to the local Hawera Model club for the use of their great facilities and for laying providing the Sausages and drinks for lunch on Saturday.
