14th August 2005 ~ Interclub day at the Warkworth Model Aero Club
NMHC participation at Model-X really paid dividends with contacts made there resulting in an invitation by the WMAC to fly heli’s (and planks for the desperate)
at their private field just South of Wellsford.
Sunday morning dawned fine, despite the pessimists and Steve N, Paul and Brian met up bright and early at the Albany Pub to convoy North to meet-up for
breakfast with the members of the Warkworth Model Aero Club. The WMAC had arranged a super breakfast at the Honey Café and that was certainly
appreciated after the early start. This also gave us a chance to meet and greet with our hosts. Mark and Pru also joined us at the café.
After the leisurely breakfast we all convoyed up to the “strip” which is on a private property owned by Steven Izzard. Boy this is some private airstrip. Beautifully
sealed runway (that seemed to run to the horizon), clubhouse, toilet and nice groomed “lawns”.

Another dozen or so members of our club (and a few hangers-on) joined us at the field. The WMAC members had turned on tea and coffee all day and a BBQ for
lunch. Just for once our new club President didn’t need his BBQ tongs.

Paul got the day underway with a great display of 3D flying which left the locals absolutely gobsmacked.
The NHMC club members had a nice smattering of the usual pod
‘n booms and
seemed to be a crowd favourite.

The sealed runway looked ideal for the handful of jets that turned up. Sadly though a gusty SW cross wind kept all but Brian Borland’s Bullfrog on the ground. Both
Steve and Daroish with his recently completed Dolphin, did taxi runs.

Three or four of the WMAC members have heli’s and were just at the hovering stage. NHMC Club members and instructor Steve N was able to help these guys
with setup and some instruction on the club trainer.

The rest of the day went by with huge amount of heli flying and a smattering of planks. Both Paul and Steve E were real crowd pleasers with some super 3D flying.
Amazingly despite the gusty wind and un-familiar setting the day was incident free.

Thank you Des, Trevor and the WMAC members that turned on a fantastic day. We can’t wait to do it again. Cheers Brian
